ROSE Procedure

Georgetown Community Hospital is on the cutting edge of weight loss surgery technology. We now offer the ROSE (Restorative Obesity Surgery, done Endolumenally) procedure, which is an endolumenal (no incisions at all) procedure to repair failed gastric bypass procedures. Many times, a Gastric Bypass pouch is made too large, which can lead to weight regain due to the ability of the pouch to stretch.

This procedure can solve that problem, and it’s all done through the mouth in what’s known as natural orifice surgery. A special instrument has been developed by USGI that uses surgical anchors to create multiple tissue folds around the opening from the stomach and the stomach pouch itself. Our surgeon would create as many of these folds as necessary to shrink the pouch down to the appropriate size.  As a result, the patient returns to feeling full more quickly on smaller portions of food, and begins losing weight again.  It's important to note that it still requires lifestyle changes, i.e.portion control, exercise and behavior changes to make weight loss permanent.

Because this is a new procedure, having only gained FDA approval in late 2007, most insurance companies are currently not covering this procedure.
