We all want to lose weight to look better. More importantly though, we should lose excess body weight to feel better.
Having a BMI greater than 30 puts us at greater risk to develop dangerous health condition such as diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. All of these conditions get worse with additional weight gain. Conversely, most improve or resolve with weight loss.
In addition, we find that the overweight population struggles with discrimination in every facet of life, from employers to physicians to airlines! This discrimination leads to depression in approximately 90% of our patients.
The good news is that losing weight not only makes us look better, it makes us feel better, and our lives become happier and more productive.
As you go through our program here at Georgetown Community Hospital, we will talk to you about the stressors in your life so that you are prepared to handle the changes that will occur as you start to lose weight.
