Meet some of our patients who've made their weight loss surgery tool work for them. They've all embraced the fact that they are in charge of their own success and are proud to share their stories with you.
If you are a patient of Georgetown Bariatrics and would like to share your success story, please contact our Education and Outreach Coordinator, Joann Powell, here.

Life as The Great Pretender
My life before my weight loss surgery was very dull and boring. I pretended that it wasn't. I joked around with people a lot. I talked about how I loved to dance, but I wasn't actually
I was the Great Pretender.
Working was no easy task, at 5'2" and 310 pounds. I did what I had to do to survive and to take care of my family and household. My children and husband would worry about me, but they never knew just how bad it was. I was the Great Pretender, after all!
The grandkids, they have my heart, and I knew that if I didn't do something about the extra weight, I might not get to see them grow up.
It was time to quit pretending and start acting.
There's an old saying about getting the truth about a hospital; ask an employee if they would have their own surgery there. I can tell you that's EXACTLY why I came to Georgetown Bariatrics. I work at Georgetown Community Hospital, and I trust and valued the opinions of the surgeons who took care of me!
I had no complications, and I have no regrets!
I can walk, and walk, and walk now. I can dance when I want to. I can cross my legs and boy, what a feeling that was!
In life, the first thing you must do is decide what you really want, weigh the costs and results and ask yourself if the results are worth the costs? Make up your mind completely and go after your goal with all your might.
My re-birth date was June 12, 2006. I had an Adjustable Gastric Band. I lost my weight over the course of 18-24 months and I've been steady at 140-ish pounds for 3 ½ years.
I'm feeling good about myself, and I no longer need to pretend!
